Table Garlands

Who doesn’t love the look of a table garland at a wedding receptions or other events? Beautiful greenery and flowers along the entire length of a table creates a rich, garden-like look. And there are flowers in front of every guest at the table. What’s not to like? This look can be made ahead of time as a “bound” garland, with flowers and foliage wire-wrapped or taped together. Simpler designs can be achieved by placing lengths of foliage onsite and adding in cut flowers.

If you want a light coverage look, the foliage can be lain on tables using greens with some body and height, such as Italian ruscus, various eucalyptus, olive branches, Plumosa fern and/or huckleberry. We then go back and insert flowers along the length of the greens, using a combination of lush flowers (such as roses, dahlias, peonies orchids) and more delicate filler flowers (ex.: wax flowers, Nigella, mini-carnations).

Flowers vary in how well they’ll do without a water source. Roses, orchids and lisianthus are champs in this respect. If in doubt, we’ll place flowers in water picks and insert these into the foliage. We achieve a natural garland look by placing odd numbers of flowers or flower clusters, spacing flowers unevenly (Mother Nature does not do even spacing! ) and having the flowers facing out at different angles and heights.

While many brides think that garlands cost less than floral arrangements in vases, that is usually not so. Quality foliage rivals the cost of many flowers, and a considerable amount of floral product is needed to cover six to eight feet of a table. There can be a higher labor cost for making “loose garlands” onsite as well. Each and every stem must be carefully placed, and usually within a short setup time window. Brides are advised to choose table garlands for their wedding receptions because they love that look and vibe, not for cost reasons alone.
